Bishnupur-Land of Terracotta

Bishnupur is a small town in Bankura district of West Bengal, town of terracotta temples, legend weavers.Ruled by lines of Hindu Rajas of Malla dynasty, it developed a unique form of architecture.

I hired a cab(2200/-) from Asansol(110km) to Bishnupur for whole day excursion via Asansol-Raniganj-Mejia-Bankura-Bishnupur(one way) and Bishnupur-Sonamukhi-Durgapur-Asansol(return)

Madan Mohan Temple
Built by Malla King Durjan Singha decorated with rich terracotta plaques depicting mythological stories.

Rasmancha
Built by Malla King Hambir Malla Dev, stands on square platform with pyramidal superstructure. It have unique shape with three successive circumbulatory galleries decorated with terracotta motifs.

Kalachand temple
Built by Malla King Raghunath Singha in a 'Ek-Ratna'(single towered) style with three arched openings on each of the four sides and a'Sikhara'(tower) on curved roof.

Radha Madhav temple
In the same complex of Kalachand temple,Radha Madhav temple built by queen Churamanidevi of Malla King Bir Singha in a  'Ek-Ratna'(single towered) style with three arched openings on two sides of temple decorated with geometric patterns and human figures including scenes from 'Krishna Leela' and other mythological stories. It has beautiful hut like structure at entrance.

Radha Govind Temple
Built by Malla King Krishna in a 'Ek-Ratna'(single towered) style with three arched openings on three sides. There is a chariot like structure adjacent to main temple.

#All above temples are close to each other but some amidst of deserted road with no public transport and temples had no guard/caretaker except at Rasmancha where one needs to buy ticket(25/-).

Other attractions
Jor Bangla, Jor Mandir, Shyamrai,Nandlal, Dalmadal canon, Chinamasta temple etc.

We had lunch at Banalata resort restaurant-apprx 15km from Bishnupur towards Joypur forest.
